The Hop~N~Blueberry Farm Tours

The tours start with a historic description of Van's family in the North Fork Valley near Black Mountain, NC. and how the farm came to be.

The tour will then progress into all of the new alternative crops and practices that the farm is involved in including research and production of hops, blueberries, medicinal herbs, milkweed, and the farms newest development, creating a model for the creation of habitats for native pollinators. It is at this point that the rest of the tour centers it attention on the monarch migration and the study of the butterfly's magnificent life including seeing eggs, caterpillars, chrysalises, and adult butterflies and finally visiting the peaceful and beautiful butterfly flight house full of flowers and butterflies.

Tours for the general public are scheduled from May until October on Saturdays at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.  Costs are $5 for adults and children. Children under 2 are free.

Special hop tours are specifically designed to give the visitor detailed information on how to grow hops and set up a hop yard. They are scheduled at $15/hour per person and usally last an hour and a half.

Volunteers are welcome and have the opportunity to learn as they work. In fact, we have a program for learning how to grow hops that is offered as a trade for work. This program is one of our more popular alternatives.

Be sure to visit the farm in 2015 when our U-Pick blueberry will be fully operational.
